Mr. Mohammed Kamruzzaman Emon, a 24 year old male from Bangladesh, was suffering from end stage kidney disease and was advised by doctors in Bangladesh for renal replacement therapy. He was undergoing dialysis at regular intervals but his condition was deteriorating day by day. Mr. Emon’s family was advised to get a renal transplant to cure him. They came in contact with Best Care Trip in Bangladesh and MediFlam in India, and discussed the whole case. After studying the reports, the in-house medical team of MediFlam did a free video consultation with the patient and his family. After discussing the possible treatment options and outcomes, both the patient and the family were convinced. Then a free video consultation was arranged with Dr. Haresh Patel, a leading nephrologist working at Apollo hospital, Ahmedabad. The patient and the family were really impressed by the overall professional approach of both MediFlam and the doctor and now had complete faith. Despite COVID conditions, they arranged the donor of the kidney who was the mother of the patient and did all the legal paperwork mandatory to get a transplant done in India. MediFlam arranged all the necessary documents needed to obtain medical visa and the patient, along with donor and medical attendant, arrived on 07th January, 2021 to India. The logistics, including accommodation and transport facilities, were arranged by MediFlam prior to patient’s arrival as per the preference of the patient and his family. The patient was immediately admitted and treated by doctors as he had significant swelling in his body and was also coughing up blood. Thorough investigations of both the recipient and donor were done. The patient had to undergo dialysis thrice a week as his condition was bad and deteriorating, and needed proper management. Some treatments were also recommended to both of them so that they become physically fit for the surgery. After obtaining required government permissions, the surgery was scheduled on 12th March, 2021 and successfully executed. The donor was discharged in 3 days while the recipient was discharged in 8 days. All the necessities post-surgery including medications and other formalities were arranged by MediFlam. The patient had a few follow ups and tests, and everything was normal. The patient and the family left India on 12th April. It was really a proud moment for the entire team as the patient and the family had to stay for 3 months and that too amongst COVID conditions. Luckily everyone no one contracted the virus and remained healthy otherwise during their entire stay. The happiness on the patient’s face as he was going to reunite with his brother after a long time gave us all the fillip to work with renewed enthusiasm, even in these trying times.
