Dr. Jivraj Mehta Smarak Health Foundation ( DJMSHF ) is a 27+ year old Hospital built on land provided by the AMC, for building a Hospital to serve the medical needs of the people in the city of Ahmedabad, especially the poor & those of lower middle income.
The Hospital has been fulfilling this responsibility more than satisfactorily during the last 27 years.
In the last 5-10 years, the overall Health Infrastructure has undergone a huge and rapid change with the coming up of Corporate Hospitals or Hospitals set-up by Doctors or Groups of Doctors.
Ideally, DJMSHF should be identified as a Hospital for the masses, which plays a major role in Healthcare with an image of being above the Government Hospitals in cost & closer to the Corporate Hospitals in quality of care.
Dr. Jivraj Mehta Smarak Health Foundation has been established to commemorate the distinguished services of Dr. Jivraj Mehta, to the nation, in the fields of medical education, administration, services and research.
The foundation is engaged in clinical, laboratory and community field research, encompassing urban, especially urban slum and rural population of Gujarat. The emphasis for research has been to identify & investigate in depth the health problems of community, with emphasis on cardio-respiratory and other disorders, with a view to prevent and also to study the means and methods for their aliviation.
Dr. Jivraj Mehta Smarak Health Foundation, established this Medical Research Centre to commemorate the distinguished services of Dr. Jivraj Mehta, the first chief minister of Gujarat(India), in the fields of medical services. The established of the foundation, has been entirely the brain child of its founder president Shri Ratubhai Adani. It was because of his determination to bring his dream come true, and because of his undaunted efforts, that this foundation and its medical research centre, could come into existence through the benevolent donations from philanthropists.
The institute was commissioned on 2nd October 1989. The institute provides for the services of over 100 honorary consultants in almost all the specialities and superspecialities of medicine.In addition to services of honorary consultants, the institution has a component of fulltime medical officers, resident medical officers, post graduate medical officers, full time and part specialists for all the 24 hours patient care services, including emergency services through its casualty department, mannes by well qualified casualty medical officers.
